After the repeal of the Rent Control Act...Penang or rather the city of Georgetown, the heart of Penang suffered a hole in it......many unable to pay the sudden increased in rent left for the outer suburbs...Bayan Bahru, Sungai Ara, Farlim...and even across the channel to Butterworth, Kulim, BM, SP.....
At night, many parts of Georgetown is like a ghost town, devoid of inhabitants....and there are attempts to revive parts of it...like Nagore Road....next to it will be the Swatow Lane Development......
Although places like Beach Street are still home for the Banks...but some Banks have relocated to Northam Road...like Citi Bank, Ban Hin Lee....
